Restraining Orders

Protection Against Violence and Stalking

If you have been the victim of family violence or stalking, it is crucial that you take immediate steps to protect yourself and in some instances, the members of your household.

Often an aggressor’s behavior will become more violent over time. An individual can apply for a temporary protective order (TPO) and if granted, the TPO will require the accused party to stay a certain distance from the victim(s) and forbid him/her from contacting the victim(s) by phone, email or third party. In the event the aggressor violates the TPO, he will be criminally charged with aggravated stalking.
